TRAINING

Formed Habits

A habit is a routine of behaviour that is repeated regularly. It will take time to break them. This takes a lot of time and consistency on the owner’s part.

When training a dog, I believe in positive reinforcement.  As with any sort of positive conditioning, it takes time, patience, consistency and repetition. If you are consistent with your redirection and rewards, your dog will learn to perform the positive behaviour on his own because it gets him good results.

Positive reinforcement for behaviour changes are steps towards the final desired behaviour, and is extremely beneficial when learning new commands.

Always praise your dog for their good behaviour. Frequent rewards will help your dog figure out more quickly what behavior you’re looking for and make the learning process easier for her Repetition is the key to overcoming bad behaviour. Your family must also be involved in training so the dog does not get confused with different commands and actions. Your dog will always respond better if you reward the good behaviour rather than always saying no to the unwanted behaviour. If that is the only way your dog to get attention from you, he will continue to misbehave just to get your attention.

A free consultation with your pet initially, will involve talking to you about what training your are wanting, or what bad behaviour you want to redirect.  Once we have gone through what is needed to train your dog, I will write up a training plan.

Training with your dog is an hour per session.  Your dog may need several sessions to reinforce the desired behaviour. During training, all family members must also be involved so there is consistency for your dog.

Once your dog has reached the desired result, a follow up session will be booked to see how you are all managing with the plan, and most importantly to see how your dog is following the new behaviour.
